A Matter of Pride

Belonging nowhere and everywhere at the same time encompasses greatness in itself. Not only has it been an opportunity to learn about other cultures, but it has become a great chance to educate people, as I travel more. A quick glance at a coloured person in a predominantly white community renders inquisition. It sparks the curiosity, and tingles the mind. The question “Where are you from?” can’t help but escape the lips of many I have encountered. If not that, “Parle Espaniol?” “Mexican?” “Namaste!” are close second and third places. (more…)

So much can be said about so little. Its wonderful, I think. Especially given its what I love to do. Deciding not to decide anything for myself for the couple days of my escape wound up turning out in my favor. I booked my train ticket and went from one place to another. On the way, I seated myself next to a beautiful older lady. She welcomed me next to her with a smile on her face. (more…)

Time has the capacity to affect us, surprise us, and enable us to learn unpredictable, yet much needed lessons. As the ticks lapse through our lives without us even noticing, we start to look forward, anticipating the next step. One, which, may at times, be held within numbers. We count down the days, hours, minutes or seconds.

Any person, no matter who they are and where they come from is in no position, whatsoever to intimidate you, your strengths and your full potential. The power of a moment..

Yesterday, I lay back on the misty summer grass at dusk looking up at the endless sky realizing all that I was capable of. I thought about the people I could inspire, the changes I could bring about in all the right ways and felt nothing less than empowered. A keen rush crept in me, I wanted to spring up on my feet, go home and do something big. (more…)
